Male factor

What is it ?

Concentration

The concentration is related to the number of sperm present in a seminal sample, it is called oligozoospermia when the presence of sperm is less than 15 million per milliliter, cryptozoospermia when there are less than 100 thousand per milliliter, and azoospermia when there is none. sperm in the seminal fluid. This may be due to some obstruction, inflammation, or infection of the seminal ducts.

Motility

On the other hand, if sperm are found within the seminal sample, it is necessary to verify that the movement is correct, which will allow them to slide through the uterine cavity until they find an egg to fertilize, which is usually known as asthenozoospermia.

Morphology

Another characteristic to consider is its shape since many can have two heads or tails, a neck with alterations, deformations in the body of the sperm, among others. This means that the sperm cannot successfully fertilize the oocyte, preventing pregnancy. Problems related to the shape of the sperm are called teratozoospermia.

What can be done?

Through sperm capacitation, it is possible to eliminate all those examples that present deterioration of any kind and seek pregnancy through intrauterine insemination while the woman does not present any problem. If there is no presence of sperm in the semen, the search can be started through a testicular biopsy and opt for an In Vitro Fertilization treatment.
